“The weather here has been as foul as it can be/although it doesn’t really matter much to me/for all the fun I’ll have while Hardwicke House isn’t out on DVD/you might as well listen to TATP’s Summer Smash until September”

Bored of waiting for the rain to subside? Not Oran ‘Juice’ Jones? Then you could do a lot worse than lending an ear to TATP’s Summer Smash! Yes, over the next four weeks, we’ll be bringing you more of our moderately-celebrated ‘audio collages’, this time covering the sounds of summer (so that’ll be Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach played over the top of Now! That’s What I Call Music – The Summer Album, then), with maybe a couple of extra surprises along the way too.

The first non-surprise one, School’s Out, is out now – relive those heady days of breaking up for the holidays in the company of the Radio 1 Roadshow, Why Don’t You…?, The Jam, Radio Active, Dodgy, BBC Wimbledon, But First This…, The Undertones, The Wombles, The Divine Comedy, Daphne & Celeste, Wacaday, Alice Cooper, The Young Ones, The Mary Whitehouse Experience, Tinkerbell’s Fairydust, Rat On The Road, The Barracudas and Booker T & The MG’s. But sadly no Phil Cool. His live album was just one letter out.

You can download it directly here, or subscribe via iTunes, so why not stick it on your MP3 player and pretend you’re escaping the torrential ridiculousness with a weekend in sunny Cleethorpes…
